My Ride: 2006 550i - Silver-Grey - Sprint Booster
So, I received mine today for my 2006 550i. I see the screws are pretty small, but they look like a star shape (5 point) with the pin hole in the middle. Does anyone know what type of wrench set this is and the exact one I would need to use. Also, are there any words of advice on the install before I start?
So, I need to know what wrench set and size to ask for at a local Parts Store and any hints on a successful install. I'm really looking forward to the test drive.

Torx bit ? So it like the little black "L" shaped wrenches because two or three screws have little more than a inch room in front of it. I'm actually not the slow with tools : ) I just want to make sure so I don't waste time making multiple trips to the store. Thanks for your input : )

I made the same mistake when I tried to install mine. I drove around 2 hours looking for those special screw drivers and I found them only to find out I don't need them...
You do not have to remove them. There is a large screw at the BASE of the pedal. There is a plastic circular cover over it. Pry that off and unscrew the bolt and lift the pedal up and it will slide right out of the mount.

You need a torx screwdriver....the screw head looks like the picture below.
There is only 1 screw, located at the base of the pedal, a plastic piece will be covering the screw. Remove it and unscrew. Then push the pedal towards the front of the car and it will pop out of place, then pull out to gain access to the connection.

HOLY SMOKES!!!!! I just got back from a quick spin. Took no time to install. Thanks for the advise Krozi - that was perfect. I'm going to cover over the little cable showing with some black gaffers tape.
