You can still add paddle shifters to your car for shifting, you just dont get the added goodies of the SAT option (throttle response/shift points). There are other threads that cover this for pre-LCI models.

3. Run the 2 wires from SZL as follows:

- Install 1 wire into pin 13 on SZL connector (x1880) and run to connector x6031 in ebox to pin 11 red/white wire
The "wiring harness" are der wires wicht must be connect in point 3. or is point 3. accessorily to do ?

point 3 was previously in the thread mentioned as perhaps not required; however I found on my car as well that it was indeed required. These 2 wires are not part of a harness but are wires that you must create/pull yourself, or get your mechanic to do for you. These 2 wires are an additional requirement in order to connect your steering wheel column with the gearbox controller (though they are not run to the controller directly).

The mentioned wiring harness with part no 61316976397 you must order from bmw and that connects the 2 steering wheel paddle switches to the steering wheel column.

ok I understand the fact about SIB. The 2 wires must be done .

If I insert the hardware an point3 correctly,can i use the functions to switch by steering wheel immediately or first after update software and code new Vehicle Order ?

Hard to say for sure, as no one has tried this. However, from past experience with the programming I would expect that without the VO update to even tell the car you have paddle shifters attached nothing will happen when you use them -- or you will get an error code thrown to the shift module which may prevent your DS mode from functioning correctly.

If you're going to do the full retrofit anyway, I'd just make sure it all gets done at once (hardware + programming)

Anyone try this mod on a '08 535xiT? I'm not sure if the SAT was compatible with xDrive... Thanks!

the ebox is in the engine compartment so it is not the ECU. I don't recall whether WPG550 or I posted these before (they're from WPG550) so uploading them here just in case.

The SIB referred to earlier, which has a slight omission in it, namely that you need to install a single wire into pin 12 on SZL connector (x1880) and run to ground, is also attached as 2 pictures for quick reference

@ehchan - try realoem and putting in either your VIN or the correct build dates/model, etc and see if the parts still show as compatible. From memory, I don't recall seeing any restrictions related to xDrive in any of the parts, although I was probably searching under my 550 as a model.

Another option would be to hunt down a 2008 or 2009 5-series brochure and see if the SAT was an option for the xDrive models.

@Wgp or NavarrOne

i have a littel problen what i should do ?

3. Run the 2 wires from SZL as follows:
- Install 1 wire into pin 12 on SZL connector (x1880) and run to ground (this was the final step missing in the SI

--> that i understand . a new wire from from szl connector pin12 to ground = (-)

- Install 1 wire into pin 13 on SZL connector (x1880) and run to connector x6031 in ebox to pin 11 red/white wire

but here the last part of the text ???

---> a new wire from from szl connector pin13 to the x6031 (from inside the car to outside-engineroom) ---> ? and then connect the new wire with the pin 11 red/white wire altogether ?

thanks a lot
