...some of you guys might have seen, but on day 1 I took my car apart and did the m5 retrofit. My car is now a week old and my confidence is sky high so I went to the dealer on wednesday and ordered the following parts that I picked up today :D
Attachment 50692 Attachment 50693 Attachment 50694 Attachment 50695 There are 3 stages to this exercise Stage 1: retrofit just the SAT lever and the ECU with no SAT functionality Stage 2: have the car coded for SAT functionality (Sports mode, faster shift times etc.) Stage 3: paddle shifter retrofit Stage 1 is due this weekend. I am 50/50 on whether stage 1 will work. My engineering background tells me, it should not work because the ECU has no firmware running on it so it will not work. Let us see - more to come later.. wish me luck :) cu rumman |
Is this the "kit" you PMed me about -- the one where a BMW dealer had retrofitted the SAT on a 535d? If so, hopefully they gave you good advice and instructions... GOOD LUCK!!
|
this is not a retrofit kit, but I will make it one...
if all goes well, I will post DIY on the forum... wish me luck |
This I think will be the first, awesome. Very best of luck. Keep us posted :number1:
|
Is this compatible with Pre-LCI cars as well, or just only for LCI with standard Auto?

no no, it is only for LCI cars with the standard "ugly" automatic shifter...
|
Is the only difference with the sports automatic transmission the selector lever and ecu then? Seems it must be the only difference after looking at bmws site the sport auto is only another ?100 on the 535d.
|
Yes, the difference is the ECU and selecter lever, and the Sports button
As said, stage 1 is to get this thing physically in. Stage 2 is to get the dealer to enable the SAT features on my car. And Stage 3 are the paddles... cheers |

whts the difference with the SAT and the normal AT. when i look at the DIY that rsyed posted, the stick shift looks the same.except shorter and there a sport button under the idrive knob. plus, does the button work? or just looks?

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=automatic Like i wrote in my previous thread, the sports button has no functionality. It needs to be coded by the dealer... At the moment, stage 1 is all about looks... |
oohhh okkk.sorry, ive been studying all day.not concentrating much, So paddle shoud be working after Stage 2.niceee.How much do u think Stage 2 will charge u.I mean the $tealer?

yeah sure
- i leave such mods to experts like you.... |
I like the shorter stick, would it be possible just to change the lever and nothing else, or would you have to change the surround and gaiter etc.
|
That is awesome. I like the sport shifter (SAT) better than my non sport shifter. How is it working and is it just like the non sport shifter. If so I may go for this retro fit down the road.
Thanks, Rick.... |

No, the shifter on its own is not possible. You need to change the shifter, the ECU, the console cover and buy the sports button!
You have exactly the same functionality as with the non-sport shifter. It looks awesome, feels awesome and is not as fragile as the non-sport shifter. I would do the retrofit anytime again.. Total in US dollars? Let us know when stage 2 is done and does it work well. Thanks, Rick... |
Bump for a great mod....
|
Hey Rick,
I paid about 550 EUR for all the parts, but this includes 20% tax. I suggest call up a dealer and ask them for a quote - you have the part numbers. cu rumman |
What's the price difference when you order this from the factory. Not that I'm interested (I'm a manual fellow) but it will just give people an idea. There are so many DIY retrofits that are cheaper done after you get the car - so is this one of them?
|
definitely not.
the total retrofit incl. new steering wheel + paddles will be about 1500 eur. from the factory, this is an 100 eur upgrade :( |
That's why I just want to upgrade the shifter, for the the look and feel.
|
Found an M% steeering wheel on ebay if its any use ?

tnx Nik...
|
Did you get it to work?
