Does anybody know where I can purchase a spare tire replacement for the doughnut tire?

I caught a flat in the spare tire, in the winter time, and the tire guy couldn't find a tire to put on the doughnut rim, so he put the full-size summmer tire on it.

Now the spare doesn't fit in the well good.

I had a mechanic looking the junk yard last week, but came up empty.

Is this tire that hard to find? BMW dealer is quoting around $275, but isn't that quit a bit just for the tire along? I could understnd if I wanted the rim and the tire, but just for the tire alone

The compact spare tire is NOT "conventional"! And it would IMHO not be safe to drive on it for any distance. e.g. it is inflated at a much higher PSA than 'regular' tires of a similar size to handle the 'load' of the car despite it being considerably smaller - a conventional tire would be UNSAFE if inflated in that manner. Replacement compact spare tires are available - you might even check a local tire retailer (your corner gas station might not) like NTB or Goodyear or TireRack. You should certainly try a salvage yard - though those might actually be as expensive as the price your dealer quoted!
