Thumbs up

As I am still waiting for my car to arrive by the end of April, I am starting to think of summer rims and tires. But my concern is that I have run flat on the car, and it doesn't have any spare tire nor jack. Since I like to upgrade to 19s or 20s and will not use run flat, I just don't feel save without the spare. I supposed that if I just do city driving, that would be fine. But I do travel long distance every now and then. What do you guy do in my situation? Just use the non-run flat without the spare?

Is there such thing as "spare tire (donut) and jack kit" that BMW sells and can be fitted perfectly in the truck. Since some E60 have spare and jack in the truck, I supposed BMW should have something like that, am I correct? If so, how much did you guy pay for it? (especially people in North America)

Yes there is. Just ask your dealer. It does cost twice as much as the factory option though.

My dealer quoted $650 for just the donut+ Tire cost extra. Isn't there a cheaper alternative, wouldn't a regular rim just fit on it?

I am running 225/50R17, would my spare tire fit in the trunk spare compartment or do i have to downsize?

In the UK you can order a FULL SIZE spare wheel and jack for ?75 at the time of purchase. One of the few options that seem value for money!

In that it is to be used only for an emergency, would it not be a bit more economical to buy an older/smaller 5X120 wheel (say an older 15") and tire and put that in the boot well? Also, wouldn't just about any scissor jack with ample lift do the job? It might not be pretty and you may need to improvise the mounting in the well, but it will be hidden beneath the deck/carpet and seldom, if ever, used anyway.

The option isn't for a full size, but a chocolate button / space saver / donut or whatever you want to call it. I agree with the value bit though, as the same Dealer will charge over ?100 more for the same thing as a retrofit.

Sahil,

Your full size wheel won't fit in your wheel well in the boot unless you take out the carpet and leave it at home!!

Ive done this and so I know. The carpet is not the problem for a full size wheel, its actually the wheel height. So if you are ok to have the wheel come into the boot and the floor not be flat then sure you can put a full size spare there. You will need to loose the carpet even with the space saver because the carpet ridges for the dividers will not allow the spare to fit in.
