it depends on the width and offset of your wheel. if you have a 124set with 245 at the front, and 275 in the rear, then my suggestion is 13 mm spacers.
yes indeed, according to my calculations, 29 mm of the tires go on the inside. this is why the 275 are not allowed to be mounted on a touring simply because they would rub inside. this is why there is a set with 245 in the rear for the touring models, except of course you put spacers, then the 275 fit a touring.

the math for the e90 is simple: 7j x 16 with et 34 vs. 8,5j x 17 et 37 (i looked up the et on realoem)

(7j/2)*2,54-34/10 = 5,49 cm
(8,5j/2)*2,54-37/10 = 7,09 cm

this means, even if the tires are 4 cm wider, compared to the 16, the wider wheels stick out 1,6 cm more.

cheers rumman
Can OEM 166M rim owners comment on spacer issues at the back? my tyres arrive in a week, and want to have everything I need ready, I prefer the idea of ordering 20mm spacers (40mm track widening) because those spacers can be of the type where the spacer has its own bolts to bolt it to the hub, and then the wheel bolts to the spacer, seems lots better to me since you can keep your original bolts, and it just seems a more secure method, as the pic here shows. eibach call this "system 7" spacers

smaller than 20mm spacers seem to all be of the type that require longer bolts. However, on my 530d, if I understand other's comments here on the forum, I believe 20mm might be that bit too far to go, and cause me problems, so I've bitten the bullet and ordered in eibach 12mm spacers (24mm total track widening) and a suitable set of longer bolts. this type of spacer eibach call "system 2"

I've read through a lot of the threads relating to spacers on here, but what throws me off is being unsure how many of those commenting had replica rims which may not have the same offset as OEM.

For anyone else wondering where to get spacers, heres the eibach part numbers

That was a terrific post. I am heading to the tire place tomorrow to do a rebalancing, and we are trying the 20mm spacers because the guy has a set in stock (H&R). My replica 166s are only 9" instead of 9.5" so I am hoping that the extra 0.5 justifies the 20mm. When we put the 20mm up against the tires, the tire guy stated that these seemed to be the right size compared to the desired offset of other 5-series drivers.

I will report back tomorrow afternoon. I liked the spacer charts. Really cool.

please do let us know how you get on!

also very important for us to compare each others setups is to know the offset of the rims, do you know what offset your 166 replicas are?

I went with 20mm spacers on the rear. Those were perfect. These are the equivalent of 18mm (with a 19x9 rear rather than 19x9.5).
I put pictures on another post here. I am on a different computer now, so I cannot post the pictures here.

I am even thinking about 10mm spacers on the front, although they seem to be flush right now with the rear tires. I went to the dealership yesterday to look at 550i's with 18" wheels. My rear wheels maybe stick out about an extra 5-10mm, but this is a very small difference.

all the discussions of spacers only make sense if we know the width and the offset of the replica...
