Some of our forum members have spacers on their cars (wheels).

Spacers are put between the wheel and the hub and they make the wheel come wider out.

Could someone please explain the pros and cons of this tuning genre?

I believe the general purpose of spacers is intended to be esthetics. A more aggressive look by widening the "stance" of the car, without resorting to a wider tire that 1) may not fit your rim width and 2) due to increase width of tire on the inside too, could cause additional rubbing problems. As far as performance there are two schools of thought here: 1) must be better as wider stance must give better curve holding capability or 2) if it was better why didn't BMW do it? I believe that within reason (maybe under 20 mm [1.2 inch] each side) in the rear might be neutral to postive and maybe no more than 10 mm per side in front. Over that then I belive you upset the BMW design too much and may incur a detrimental effect. However, I am no expert in this area and only base this on others antedotal reports (i.e. no research on my part and no technical knowledge).

In short, and in my opinion:
Pro's
- better looks
- better sideways stability due to wider track

Con's
- rubbing if you choose the wrong size
- if your spacers require you to use longer bolts, you loose the use of the wheel locking bolt.
- I am sure there are more if you use inferior products/spacers

Here's a good discussion of the pros/cons of wheel spacers.

Even OEM BMW wheels for the E60 have different offsets which have the same effect as spacers.
So within limits, I can not see why spacers would have a negative effect.

edit- some good points in the linked thread above, but they do seem to be talking about track cars mainly where the stresses are much higher.

I would imagine that this is the safest way to go with spacers, bolting the spacer directly to the hub.
DRA = Wheel Spacer/Adapter
The Adapter is fitted to the hub with special wheel bolts and has new threaded holes for existing wheel bolts. The system DRA is available for vehicles following car producers: Alfa, Audi, BMW, Citroen, Daewoo, Ferrari, Fiat, Ford, Lancia, Lotus, Maserati, MCC, Mercedes, Opel, Peugeot, Porsche, Renault, Saab, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen, Volvo.

I noticed you car on the other thred, those wheels looks great, good choise!

But what comes to the different offsets on OEM BMW wheels im not sure.
I understand that the offset changes on wider/narrower wheels so that the centerpoint will stay normal

If you have 19" you can lower it if you have 20" s I wud not do it.
Matter fact if it is proper there should be no real cons.
