Hey all. So, I ordered the series 166 wheels. However, I am not sure what kind of tires to use. I know I need 245/35/19 in the front and 275/30/19 or so in the back, but am totally unfamiliar with what is good in sports tires. I want something all weather if possible, but if not, something that will perform relatively well overall. I am in Cincinnati, Ohio, so I only have a couple of times a year. I have an SUV for days for really bad weather. Please advise as to what those of you have have moved to these wheels are using. I appreciate it. Thanks!!

If you want a really inexpensive pretty good tire, try the General Exclaims. Tire Rack will sell a set of four for about $550. If you look at the ratings on Tire Rack, this tire sits at the top of its category. That is not to say that a 19" tire is the same as the 16" tires that are being rated by most people, but it shows that the tire is not a bad one.

Some of the other tires will range from $250-300/per tire. However, if you got the OEM wheels, money may not be an issue.

Best,

Welcome aboard jasonrhcastle, glad you could join us.

Your will love the look of the 166s. What model E60 do you have? Do you have the M Kit too?

The consensus on this Forum is that the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 are the best tire on the market. And you may want to consider the slightly wider rear tire at 285/30, but the wider rubber is expensive.

I put Bridgestones on my 166s (see sig below) and they have been a fantastic tire - best I've ever had by far in terms of grip, ride, and quiteness. But they do not come in the 285 width.

I would recommend getting a good high performance summer tire for your 166s instead of all season tires. All season tires are a huge compromise and you won't get great grip or handling from them in any season.

Instead, buy some winter tires and mount them on your stock wheels. It's the difference in rubber compounds that makes a good winter or summer tire - not the tread design so much. These beasts are difficult to drive in the winter without winter rubber.

Good luck and show us the wheels when you get them.

I ordered a 530i sport package...Has nav, premium sound, premium package, sirius, cold weather...Titanium Silver with Black leather. Should be here on Tuesday. They actually found one in the US after I had ordered mine, so they deferred the order and are transferring it by flatbead on Tuesday. I am try to space out my expenses.... (I know, good luck). I think I will go ahead and place the 166's on and keep them on till end November, then switch back to stock with all seasons.

Now to get a decent ipod interface....

sell your runflats off your #123s and buy winter tires for them and keep summer tires on the #166s.

I also put the Bridgestone RE050A's on 166's and wish they came in 285's, but love them just the same. I am also a Mich. PS2 fan, but thought I would try something different based on good reviews.
