Agreed. That's why I have a 550i Sport and not an E550 (which is faster in a straight line than my 550). No boulevard cruiser for me. I love twisties. That being said, the F10 550 and F10 M5 are shaping up to be 0 to 60 monsters with best in class acceleration and truckloads of torque (450 lbs-ft for the TTV8 engine going into the F10 550). Can't wait.

I sure hope so. I cannot believe that BMW would ever surrender the handling crown. It is handling and an unbelievable ride/handling balance that separate BMW from its competitors.
+ 1000, I'll never figure how they do it. My suspension soaks up bumps better than a Lincoln but when it's time to get serious about cornering somehow it transforms itself into damn near an F1 car, amazing. And I have a 530 - the M5 was WAAAAAAAAAY better.

True, but if you want a drag racer -get a Camaro. I have always felt any idiot can go fast straight, and after having been a road racer I still feel that way. Things change quite a bit when there's turns - actual skill is involved.

At the Tail of the Dragon (318 turns in 11 miles), we met a local with a C55 AMG. He should have known the road better than us but seemed to be afraid to run with all of our BMWs, as he just wanted to stay put when we were heading out. The 550i is quite amazing on that road. I'd love to try an ///M there.
We have a similar, but less famous, road in central-eastern Pennsylvania. It is State Route 125. 30 plus miles of sheer twisties paradise and very lightly trafficked. It starts about 150 miles west of New York City 10 miles north of the Bethel, Pa exit on I78 West (between Allentown and Harrisberg). The best I have ever driven in the northeast!

My Ride: 545I SMG
I drove all the latest AMG 63s and when driving these cars they do feel like monsters. Slightly weigh the right pedal and you instantly know you aren't driving an ordinary car. I was most impressed with the C63. This car felt more solid compared to the others and has good looks except for the bland rear-end. Back onto the topic, the new SL63 I thought was garbage. Overall I felt as if the engine and transmission weren't "connected" in the sense that they were working together. In fact it felt like they were actually working against each other. Clunky shifting and bucking just made this car so intolerable to drive I could never think someone could actually drive it around the city. Of course I always like to give credit where its owed. The SL63 is a great looking car and with the new face lift, looks a little meaner. Additionally no one can ignore the "slam your body into your back" feeling with the torque and power it delivers. If only they could do a little more with making the car feel "in sync" with itself would it be considered over an M.

Well I do agree that MB is tend to dsconnect a lot of things but I think the reason they are doing that is
because with this kind of power, engineers are forced to build "disconnect feel" so drivers won't scare/hesitate to use the power available.
You gotta remember, very small fraction of % of drivers are enthusiasts/know what they are doing behind steering wheel. I believe
if BM comes out very raw or connected feeling of BMWs, a lot of average drivers can't handle the torque AMG engines especially in the wet.
Look at Porshe, they have enough power but never eye poping output.
BMWs M cars are torqueless and although M cars are very fast, torque is what you "feel" the acceleration. That's why M cars need to be more raw in order
to make up that torque feel. People go wow on torque or breath taking away 8000rpm!! very 2 different approaches. And Mercedes went with
monster torque route while BMW went with raw/connected N/A engines with high redline.
2 different things. Only super cars have both(power and driver's car). And look at how many people crash super cars cuz
they can't handle (BMW feeling+Mercedes power)!!
But it seems BMWs F10 M5 are going to have FI so I guess we can find out in few years if people can handle both
