Sirius Radio Installation - After market
#1
Does anyone know what my options are if I wanted to add Satellite radio to my 2004 530i? I'm not sure if my car came prep'd for the install, but I thought that all '04 models were supposed to be pre-wired for it.
Has anyone installed it aftermarket, and if so, does it work as seemlessly as cars that came with it installed from the manufacturer?
Thanks,
Mr Mack

check your sticker, should have noted Sat Prep. When I ordered my car Jan 2004, it was a $75 option you had to order and it appears on my sticker. This of course assumes that you don't have Navigation. If you do, no Sirius for you! At least from BMW. You can do the aftermarket of either Sirius or XM but it won't work through your iDrive and I assume that in addition to the shark fin antenna, you'll have to add the mouse antenna for sat. radio.
If you don't have NAV and did get the Sat. prep option, you can order the kit for installation at your dealer, though I understand there is a backlog here in the states for the units. Cost for unit and installation is around $700 (assuming 2 hrs of labor).
