Hi everyone,

I've got an 06' e61 which unfortunately doesn't have satellite prep Otherwise, LOVE my new-to-me car.

So, BMW wants 1200 plus for a Sirius satellite retrofit . With plenty of other projects taking priority right now, I'm wondering if anyone here has come up with a tasteful/discrete installation of a sirius radio (sportster 5 or the like) in their e60/61 that they can share?

Thanks,
B.

I just use a Stilletto mounted to the air vent. Not exactly discrete, but the car mounting kit comes with a remote. A nice little feature for the unit.

The antenna is front-mounted, but fairly discrete. It's in the upper right-corner.

I did something similar with a Stiletto .. but mounted the antenna INSIDE the front window .. reception is fine .. and wired things into glovebox so unit was completely out of sight

That looks pretty good actually. You're plugged into an AUX jack I assume with that?

+1. I installed a my girlfriends SIRIUS on her Lexus IS, and within a year the antenna was shot from getting water in it. I talked to an installer and he recommended installing it on the dash inside the front window, and it works great and you don't even notice it.

I have always left my antenna in the front window. I have yet to have any problem with it. In my wife's VW it is on the front quarter. It is not working as well as it did, it might be worth getting another.

Why bother with satellite when for $500 you can get iPod connectivity which will give you access to and control of your iPod from iDrive.

I see satellite radio as very 2003 at best - there's a reason that Sirius almost imploded recently and I don't think it will survive with its present business model.

I'm installing ipod next week in the car. Sirius is our only option for Stern, sports stuff, etc (in Canada). Business model aside it's nice to have the option.
