I just put #166's on my 550i, I went with 285/30/19 on the rear, and it looks good not so stretched.
I would go with Eibach for the fact that they lower the front & back 1.2 ( a more level look).
I will also be putting on the 10 mm spacers, I like the look it gave Jiio' 545i.

As for telling him to go with Eibach Prokit springs, that would not drop the car low enough to minimize the gap. He doesn't have the Sport Package. IMO, the Prokit goes best when it's with the Sport Package. The Eibach Sportline will give his car just the right look or as MMAfia suggested go for the coilovers, that way he can adjust the height as he pleases.

Thanks for the compliment on the spacers.

I think that I may try the H&R springs. I think that Eibach lowers 1.2" whereas H&R is more like 1.75 inches. TireRack seems to have a good comparison section. They rate between noise, feel, etc.
Getting to a "normal" height is good enough for me, so Eibach may be fine as well.
I hope that the springs also help the overall feel.
If I can make a recommendation to all of those thinking about the #166s, the checklist should include.
(1) Choosing Replica or non-Replica---you will need hubcentric rings with the replicas
(2) Tire Pressure Monitors--you will need to replace them (before putting on the tires)
(3) Springs--to lower the car if you do not have the sport package (and even if you do).
(4) Spacers--consider for a nicer look.
(5) Decision between 275/30/19 and 285/30/19 for the rear wheels
(6) lower tire pressure to avoid harsher ride when moving from the softer 17" wheels
Anything else I missed?

Which Eibach lowering spring are you going to get? Pro Kit or Sportline?
