Its $2,400 for the job. 3M Vinyl. The shop tells me its clear-coated, too, so it'll be a high gloss and look just like paint but is a reversable process. The Vinyl itself should last approx 5 years.
So, should I do it? I'm REALLY on the fence about this btw. I'm looking for feedback because black looks really good. However, its a nightmare to keep clean, shows swirl marks like hell, and keeping it nice in Winter is a disaster.
My car will pretty much end up like the pic below with a before and after (without the side vents):

Yea, they said it was super strong and would withstand a beating more than my paint could. Even said I could wax it and wash it like a regular car and that waxing makes it look even better, etc. Shop said that vinyl only degrades from neglect so if you keep it moist with regular cleaning / waxing it'll last a long time.

My Ride: 2004 bmw 530i
with it being so resilient against weather and being able to wax it id say do it. how crazy would it be for the first month or so to walk out and have your car be a different color 
and when your over it and get a new idea just being able to reverse the process is the best part of it all i say do it.

my question is, don't you have to change your car papers? in my country, a major change as such needs to be informed so that cops don't fine you as its considered illegal.
