I will do the CDV when I'm changing brake fluid since I will need to bleed the clutch anyway. I think I will hold off on doing the short shifter, it sounds like a pretty big job and would be really tough without a hoist!

Have you looked at also getting a shorter knob to go with the short shifter? I have a ///M knob that is weighted and probably 3/4" shorter than stock. It was a nice improvement with the stock shifter.

 

I'm going to take a look at a new knob. Good idea. Yes, "don't try this at home". You will definitely need a hoist.

 

I have 545i w/manual & UUC and it works great. I was told not to use the adjustable portion as it was too short. Solid, good feel & fast shifting. Go the new DSSR route if you do. I had rogue on my E36's and they were great too! You win either way....

 

for those that have done this mod, what operation requires the car to be so high(on a hoist/lift)? removing the exhaust? body panels? just having access underneath the car to work on?

 

You have to remove the exhaust in order to remove the heat shields so you can get access to the transmission. I would only do it on a hoist. Jack stands won't get the car high enough.

 

it is not possible to remove the exhaust mounting hardware, and then move the exhaust out of the way to remove the heat shields?

I know it would be easier without the whole exhaust, just seeing if this way would be feasible

 

Unfortunately the exhaust is a single piece from the cats back, therefore you need to unbolt it. It's not a big deal to remove it.
