The set top box is for DVB-T, what is terrestrial digital video broadcast, or simply, digital TV by air.
The box is an add on and goes in the trunk, therefore the remote. Wth having that you can switch between regualr (analog) and digital TV.
But I don't know if you have DVB-T...
This is new in Germany...

All MY2005 E60/E61's with TV function doesn't need this box, because it's allready included in the regular TV module...

I would ask in a TV shop or somebody who works for a TV station...

Off course, the remote reaches it!

That depends on how many TV stations got a license.
In Germany all major stations have a license allready, even some minor ones.
The biggest benefit is, that you will be able to see all channels in an almost perfect quality, even in metro regions where you usually get only one or two stations on the analog module.

I don't know.
I have the TV function allready. So when I asked my dealer about it he knew I have the TV tuner allready and there was no reason to mention the need of the TV module... So I can't tell you if you have to have the TV module... I would say, it's required, but that's just a guess.
BTW, my dealer told me the box including installation and German sales tax is 975,- Euro.
