Like many of you, I own a 545i. I have to say I'm fairly happy with the car, but I wouldn't mind having a few extra horsepower. What would you recommend to obtain a net gain of at least 30hp? Any experiences and recommendations will be welcome.
Regards,
Alex

Otherwise keep your BMW clean of any non factory solutions.
In the long run you'll pay for them x 2 or x 3.

I would use only Dinan (dinan.com) performance parts (ignoring muffler)--intalled by a Dinan certified dealer/installer. I recommend only the use of Dinan parts because I think that you would end up in the strongest possible position if a warranty issue arises--not to say that you might not still end up with a warranty problem.

Right now you can get CAI, exhaust, and throtte body from Dinan. Be aware that there is significant doubt about whether you will get the claimed benefits--even though Dinan generally appears to be reasonably truthful. In one case, tests implied that having a B&B muffler and a Dinan throttle body acutally hurt performance after an update to 20.01.00. See this thread.

Your only option is to supercharge for about $9K. Of course, it will void your warranty.

Znod,

What's the issue with the Dinan muffler? Is there a different option you would recommend?

thanks

I don't think there is a problem with the Dinan muffler--except that there are others that seem to be just as good, and perhaps better in one way or another, for much less money. And, a muffler is not likely to be accused of causing a warranty problem.

My Ride: E60 "Stripper" Now C6 "Stripper"
Exclamation

What you could immediately do is reduce unsprung weight i.e. pull out the passenger and rear seat, empty your trunk including the spare tire, get lighter tires and wheels.

Just kidding about the seats and trunk... I suppose adding a Dinan intake, (headers, anybody know who makes'em?) and Dinan exhaust?

Or just rev higher and drive like a demon in sport mode (perfect your launch technique with or without acceleration assist) with your SMG!

I think it basically is what it is, for lack of a more clever saying.

Just when I get myself thinking that the 545 could use more a few more horsepower, the weather hits 65 degrees of perfect low altitude air, and the thing runs like a scalded dog that's being chased by another scalded dog. So, I'm pretty happy with the performance, as is.

ONLY option?
I got a DMS remap for my 545 ... not tested (on my car at least), but they claim 333hp (UK) to 362hp. I can confirm it's quicker... all for sub GBP1k, on my drive, done in under 2 hours, and I've proven that it's undetectable by stealer!
