I've done this on my old E46 and in my GSX. Works just fine. I always do this before an oil change and would definately recommend the same. Yes you can dump it in your crankcase to help clean your oil passages & lifters, but I wouldn't put any substantial mileage on it. I think even the bottle recommends this as well.
