My Ride: 2007 Silver Grey 530 XI
Yesterday I received a detail on my Vin # breaking down all options. Come to find out I am equipped with both the (693) Satellite Tuner Preparation and (694) Preparation for CD changer options. Does this mean that I could add the required satellite module and expect a plu and play experience? Or would I still need coding done?
WHat about adding the Ipod integration unit where the CD Changer prep is located? Plug and play or coding required?
Any input is appreciated here.

Preparation is just the wiring is in place (power & link etc) ready to accept the module but your car is not aware of those additional input source just yet that's where coding come in place.
If the iDrive aware of additional input i.e. you see SAT & CD1-6 in addition to FM, AM, WB & CD (CD is the in-dash) but not present it'll be greyed out (non-selectable) but if you don't have choice for SAT and/or CD1-6 adding the physical module will not be Plug & Play but more of Plug & Pray.
Same goes for the iPod interface (or Dension) it's just replacement of the CD changer module.

+1
When I added mine, there was no SAT displayed on the screen at all and the dealer had to code this. Unless you have access to a used SAT module or one at a discount I would just go see the dearler and get a qoute and then decide. I installed mine and it's very simple however there is another connection you need to make under the seat and then of course programming. If you install it, the dealer should program but they don't make as much money off of you so chances are they will surely have problems that will drive the cost up a little more than the coding qoute and then you get stuck paying this new amount and it could be that its about the same or more than the origial cost was...

These guys speak the truth.
My dealer programmed my first Ipod install for me for $50 after I installed it but most people report ~ $300 to install and code.
