So most people think, including me that the bigger the engine, the cooler, louder exhaust sound. However recently hearing multipe nissan GTR's which are TTV6 engine's that are screaming LOUD-more so than M5's I have heard with eisannman Race and all sorts of things.

I am thinking, as far as the screaming loud F1 sound-it is the high RPM's that really count?

I mean a V8 revving to 6300, will make a louder growl but a I6/v6 going to 7400 will make a louder higher scream?

I dont know what are your thoughts on actualy engine displacement effect on exhaust note-I am not sure more size means louder/better. Take the e46 M3-I have heard some insanely loud and good sounding exhausts.

Well come to think of it I have double taked a honda civic from 1988 with no exhaust at all-sounded like it was fast-than I looked and not so much!

It really comes down to the exhaust...to a certain extent. The bigger the displacement, the more growl can be achieved. But that doesn't mean a V10 can't be a screamer. V6/I6 and up can growl, but not so much with V4/I4's. RPM makes a big difference also, the 8,200rpm engine in the E46 M3 is a SCREAMER. But can growl pretty damn good at low RPM's.

Kinda difficult to explain...

Yes it is the RPMS which makes the beautiful wailing scream F1.
Take note that their engines are really just 3.0 Litre V8s, capable of about 780 HP+ max. We're talking about 20,000 RPM.
In my opinion, an Inline-6 or V10 sound higher pitched than V8s at 5500+ RPM.
