The RPI main site is here: http://www.raceprecision.com/

I noticed that this mod is particularly popular in the M5 forums and i'm wondering if they are worth the money. I have a 535i and IMO this product may make sense since it'll give more air for the turbos. Has anyone have them in their ride and noticed any difference? Please don't post if you don't know what you're talking about.

A quote from RPI:
"Well, what happens is this:
The stock design grabs air from the front vents.
When the engine needs air then the engine will suck the air into itself.

The RPI scoops make our intake system into a RAM-Air system.
The scoops deflect the air into the box forcing the air into the engine.
If the engine doesn't need any air then no problem since the rammed air will exit elsewhere (like water holes and other places, etc)
When the engine needs air though, now there is plenty of air forcing its way in there."

It def. makes sense and I am interested. Unfortunately I spoke with Eloy (I think that is his name) and they have no plans to make it for anything other than the M5. Some testing was done on Nerweezy's car, but the results were inconclusive on the dyno as he had the step tranny. Good luck and let us know if you get them. There was a thread about this not to long ago where RPI commented on the matter. They state this is designed for closed box intakes, much like the stock setup rather than an AFE or such setup.

I found it. Here ya go!

The picture above was from a 335i. I thought the scoops are universal fit, no?

Another quote from race precision:
"RPi's Ram Air Scoops converts your factory intake system into a ram air type. Other aftermarket induction kits mostly suck in hot air causing a loss of performance. The use of heatshields are not very affective as heat shields mainly work to block radiant heat. Utilizing the stock intake boxes, expect an 8-11whp gain with 70mph airflow."

I can't comment on whether or not they are universal. Seeing they have one for the 335i which has the same motor as the 535i not sure if they will fit for your ride or not. You may want to reach out to them directly.

just got off the phone and i addressed this issue again with Eloy from RPI. i had originally test fitted the RPI scoop for us LCI'ers. unfortunately, the M5 scoops will not fit properly.

with that said, if we can gain enough interest in a group buy.....Eloy will custom make them for us! each scoop would will be custom made by hand, so we need a list of serious buyers!

# of Buyers: 10
Price: $110 - $200

Pricing is based on the amount of custom work that needs to be done for our scoops. once i take my car to RPI, he will have a go at it to see what custom work needs to be done.

e60 '08 535i LCI
pls sign up. serious buyer only pls.

John, i don't see why the LCI scoops can't fit pre-lci's. Can you ask Eloy when you bring in your car if it's possible to make the scoops fit both pre-lci and lci models? This way we can have more people to join the GB!!!

Count me in!
