Hi guys

Have anyone tryed on a set of wheels with the following spec. tires 255/40 x 19" and the alloys are 8.5 x 19" ET12 , on a E60

Do they fit or do thy "rub" against somewhere , I think here on the front wheels by turning ?

Thanks in advance

Regards

I have a 2006 530I E60 with Sport suspension package. I recently installed a set of previously owned BMW 166 style rims Front - 19 x 8.5 w/12 Offset and Rear 19 x 9.5 w/28 Offset. They came straight from an M5 and still had tires on them with "20% tread". The fronts were 255/40/19 and the backs were/are 285/35/19. The wheels installed with no issue, especially the backs, they are fine. But upon lowering the car from the jack in the front, it was pretty obvious that they were going to rub. There was less than 1/2" height clearance between the fender and the tire. I was able to drive it around the block, so I ventured a little farther and didn't have too much trouble until I got onto a 45mph road and hit the first dip. It wasn't terrible, but there was rubbing. As a temporary solution, i stopped at my local autoparts store and picked up some of those rubber bushings that go between the springs to raise/keep ride height, and that seemed to help except on the big dips, there would still be a little rubbing, just a high pitched zing sound for a split second. But I drove it back and forth to work 8 miles each way for a week, waiting for my new front tires to arrive from TireRack. The new ones are Continental ExtremeContact DW - 245/40/19. Had those installed yesterday. Upon lowering off the jack there definitely appeared to be more space. However, upon the first big dip on the test drive, ZING! I've read on other forums where the 245/40 should fit and provide more wheel protection and better ride due to the higher sidewall than the 35 series. I can only attribute the rubbing to the large difference in the amount of tread between the old tires and new. The new ones are definitely sitting parallel to, or just inside the fender, where the 255's were sticking out just barely. My car seems to have rolled fenders already if I understand what those are, except for right at the front part where the fender joins the bumper, there is about a 1" section there that is not turned under but sticks out and i could see that that had rubbed slightly. There didn't appear to be any marks on the tires themselves. I ended up putting the 1" rubber spacers, 2 per spring, back on. I have not been able to get it to rub since then. And as the tires wear a little, i think i won't have to worry about that anymore. I did measure and from the fender to the top of the wheel is 4" on the left and 3 5/8" on the rights side, about 3/8" to 1/2" higher than without the rubber bushings.

Long explanation, but i wanted to be thorough in case anyone else was wondering about the details. And i don't see that i'll have any trouble in the back, with the same size 285/35/19, even with lots of tread. Hope this was helpful and I appreciate any feedback from fellow forum members. This is all new to me as of November, but i'm BMW hooked now and between the coding and the physical mods, i've got projects for a year!

Hi Crckrjck

Thanks for the thorough explanation , we will have and see , my car is not lowered , it is all standart suspension , so perhaps the wheels will fir without problems.

I'll get back sometime next week ( I hope ) when I got the wheels and have tryed them on

You might be ok then, it's worth a try. I will say that I have since seen a spot directly in front of the tire, on each side, where the corner of the tire must have rubbed the wheel well lining when I was turning sharply. It didn't appear to be too intense of a rubbing, but did make some marks. Something else to keep an eye out for. Good luck!
