My Ride: 2005 525i - mo mods...just got it
Default

I recently (4-5 months) got myself a 2005 525, and not too long ago noticed that one of the rims was different. First i thought that its supposed to be like that, i seen some BMWs have different rear rims, but then i started to look around and didnt see other E60s with different rims.
I figured the one thts different is not supposed to be on my car. So if anyone knows what vehicle this different rim belongs to, please let me know. I also wonder if having this different rim would cause my car to shake at speeds 70-80?

Anyways, if anyone is looking for this rim, i would be glad to sell it. Or if anyone has the rim i need, please let me know.

Wow.. this is probably a first.

I would march right back to the dealership and tell them you want a matching rim. This is definitely not normal, however if the rims/offset/tires are the same size I don't think it would have any adverse effects on the car.

However, that dealership should have never sold a car without 4 matching rims. Ask them to make the situation right.

So, the 138 is the oddball? Having different rims shouldn't cause vibrations so long as they are fitted with the same size tire and are balanced properly.

which one is 138?

sunday, had alignment, balance and rotation done. and the oddball rim is now in front passenger position. immediatly i started to hear humming coming from that side. its weird that i didnt notice any noise when the oddball rim was in the back. so now i am looking for a matching rim, so that all 4 would be the same. Here is what i am looking to buy: rim

someone also suggested that i may need the bearings packed. Did anyone do this procedure before? I really think its the rim thats causing the humming noise, it must be different, i just dont know for sure.

The 138 is the bottom wheel of the 2 pictures, my car came with those stock. I am not sure the model # of the other wheel though. The types of things that can cause vibrations are a) wheel(s) out of balance, b) cracked or bent wheel(s), and c) uneven tire wear. Good luck, and definitely take it to the dealer and get it checked.

So i finally had enough of shaking. It was shaking so much that it almost made me puke. The rim on the left is the only different rim on my car and it is bent (at least thats what BMW told me). BUt they were able to balance it out as much as possible so now my car shakes a lot less.
I want to buy a matching rim though. Anyone has a spare and wants to sell it? Must not be bent though

Balancing a bent rim won't get rid of vibrations. Unbending and rebalancing will. At any rate, why won't BMW replace them and get 4 matching wheels?

The humming may indeed be a faulty bearing. I had that problem a little while back. Funny story though, demand you get four matching wheels!
