So just adding these two diodes, will make the rods brighter when braking too? Thanks
If you already have the V6 cable from your pre-LCI.
Just little modify as add two more diodes in between brake and Fog.
Remove the brake light bulb and tail light bulb will have Ricky's brake effect.

Ricky's method actually dims the rods during normal operation, bring down the power current to 3.6v; when braking, the rods will be lit at 12v -- its normal brightness.
So in effect, it's actually not brighter than it already is, before modding.

For the pre-lci's, I offer two levels of modding for this. One is converting the brake light to be the circle, and have rods always on. Note that this is for when your low beams are on, or set to parking light, as it's the only time the taillights are on anyway. The addendum to this mod is to wire the car so that the taillights (rods, side leds) are always on with ignition. So you no longer have to switch to parking light to turn on the rods. Similarily, I offer wiring the AE's to be this way as well, so you can always have the light control set to AUTO.
Now for LCI, it's a whole lot easier since it's already built-into the car. The rods are lit if you have DRL enabled, without the need to be on parking light.
To answer your question, if you only mod it via the diode diagram above with the light switched off, your rods will not light, just the circle part.
