I've done this recently
briefly

you need connectors set and attach new connectors
recode the LMA for high beam with xenon (trc.man file to be edited)
ONLY if your car is before 2004/09 (LMA does not hold 35W bulbs in sidelights)
recode the LMA to not check side lights
use relais (through diode bridge) to activate sideligths

OR you can change LMA to LMA2 and code it

Good luck with your modding!

I'm still working on it. After I am done, I will write a complete list of parts needed and procedures to be done. Thanks to MANY forum members here, i am getting a lot of help! I'll also be wiring HID angel eyes afterwards onto it. This is the most tedious job ever! LOL. I bought a new LCM. Might need a new ALC unit. LCM wasnt too expensive. Bought a new one.

Good luck!

John

were you able to get a hold of the LM ending in 4944?

Here are the complete parts needed.

1 x Retrofit Cable Set [ 61 12 0 432 110 ]

2 x AHL Headlights
- Left [ 63 12 7 177 749 ] US
- Right [ 63 12 7 177 750 ] US

2 x Taillights
- Left [ 63 21 7 177 281 ] EU
- Right [ 63 21 7 177 282 ] EU

1 x Light Module [ 61 35 9 154 944 ]
(Needed for cars before 9/2006)

2 x Xenon Bulbs D1S w/ Ignition Element [ 63 21 7 162 862 ]
(Needed for cars before 1/17/2005)

2 x Lamp Holders "ring clips" [ 63 11 7 162 087 ]
(Needed for cars before 1/17/2005--to hold xenon bulb in housing)

2 x Control Unit Xenon Light "ballast" [ 63 12 6 937 223 ]
(Needed for cars before 1/17/2005--for D1S Xenon bulb)

2 x Electronics box ALC (uncoded) [ 63 12 7 189 312 ]
(adaptive light control, "motor/actuator")

Keep in mind that LM ending in 4944 is the only LM that can be coded for the retrofit. According to the dealership, this model has been discontinued. Some dealership can still special order this item.

Hi

The upgrade it self from pre-LCI ( Xenon/Bi-Xenon ) to LCI ( Xenon/Bi-Xenon ) or pre halogen to LCI halogen , is no big problem , switch the connoectors on the headlights , in with a new LM if the car is before 09-2009 , coding and your done , there were the problem comes , is when you also have AKL / AHL ( Adaptiv Kurven Licht / Adaptiv Head Light ) , or you go from pre Halogen to LCI Xenon/Bi-Xenon, then you need the 9-154.-944 ( or newer ) LM and also the ACL box'es must be changed to the 7-189-312 ( 2 pic. needed ,1 for each headlight ).

It is possible to mount the LCI headlights ( without AKL / AHL function ) without changing the LM , but you will then have to make some altering with help of some relai's and resistors in order to get the Anlge Eys work right , and avoid error messages regarding the lights. ( low/high-beam , parkinglights etc. )

If LM is changed the taillights MUST also be changed to LCI version ! , if the car is a pre 09-2005 , 2 wires at each connector at the adapter socket by the taillights must be switched in order to get the taillights to function properly , and the coding to be able to be "recived" by the LM.

Remember to start the codeding withe the code " +MBEU " , this to tell the LM & Car that it's now the "new" LCI lights that is mounted , then recode the hole lightfunction ( AKL / AHL funtion ) again finishing off with a total coding ( Gesamt Codierung ) , all coding musst be done with the BMW PROGMANN computer ( SSS ).

Buttom line is , there is a way of possible combination's with this LCI up-grading ( only headlights , xenon not xenon/ halogen to xenon etyc. , headlights & taillights , only taillights and so one ) , and each combination have it's owne problems

Hope this give some sense , and YES it can be done ( also on a 12/2003 ) , look at my signatur

But good luck on the project
