I was told by a dealer than unless a new BMW has the new usb ipod interface factory installed, it cannot be retrofitted. Can anyone confirm this? If it's true, has anyone heard of plans for a retrofit kit. Apparently the USB interface offers added functionality with the iphone (which works somewhat with the 2nd gen. ipod kit despite a disclaimer that appears on the iphone once connected)

I was told by my dealer that if it was retrofitted, it disables the 6-CD Changer!!

I think Dealer was referring to IPOD adaptor, which replaces 6-CD changer. Dont think there is plans for USB Retrofit kit anytime soon.
Also Iphone should work with BMW TCM based on Bluetooth stack. Just like any WindowsMobile PDA phone should work with BMW Bluetooth Module.. all of my Windows mobile phone works just fine (all-features work), even thought it is not certified on BMW site. Not sure why would a IPHONE needs a "special" adaptor for BMWs?

But I like to know if someone installed this 'retro' kit already and how does it work? i need to invest 420 euro's only for the kit and then I stil dontknow if i can connect something which plays mp3's. btw I have an 2005 525 touring no cd changer no navigation, only a poor cd player from 1990orso.
