I remember some other threads regarding members that wanted to retrofit the Navigation Professional system in their cars without SAT NAV or with Navigation Business system. If I can find the thread(s) I will add them to this post. But I think the conclusion was that it could be done, but it would be extremely expensive to do so. I'm not sure about the HDD system, but I doubt it would differ much from a cost perspective. Moreover, you would need you car reprogrammed by a dealer resulting in more $$$$.
Edit: Here are some post about Navigation retrofit.

These posts are about retrofitting the Navigation Professional system. I doubt anyone has retrofitted the new Navigation Professional system (CIC) with is HDD based and with a new i-Drive controller as yet.

Forget attempting to retrofit this, no one has even seen a 5 series with this on from the factory.

Apparently, cars with the new i-Drive controller and the HDD based (CIC) Navigation Professional systems have started to come out of the factory. This system is market dependent, therefore certain markets do not have this option available from the factory as yet. However, almost all markets, if not all are getting the i-Drive controller.
Check out this link about a U.S. spec car in Germany bought through the military program by a G.I. It has the new i-Drive controller and the new HDD based (CIC) Navigation Professional system (evidenced by the 8.8" screen and lack of SAT NAV DVD drive).

I know about that but am yet to see someone from this board confirm that their 5 series has the new iDrive on it. I know its coming but I didn't think we were there yet.
