In the USA, I don't think the retrofit is a numberplate holder. There is a genuine BMW Accessory (in the catalog) for rear bumper sensors. I don't think it interfaces with the display and I'm pretty sure there isn't any provision for the front bumper. For the rear only, I don't think any prewiring is needed...
What's 'numberplate holder'?
My dealer had a printout with the various parts and costs. He said he'd call me with the prewiring info and let me know. I'll ask then.
How much was PDC if we would have bought it with the car?

First of apologies for not replying, I was rather expecting to get an email notification.
Em, I'm in France.
The sensors do not display on the screen.
They have been replaced and now work but the rear ones seem very quiet.
Essentially they consist of four sensors around the front plate, and two around the rear (which doesn't seem logical to me, however). Took them 5 days to sort that out. But I did get the clip in phone holder for my T630 for free as compensation so I can't complain too much.
Thanks for all the replies

Just got a call last night from my service advisor.
Before getting into labor, the new front bumper, rear bumper, painting and PDC were going to be over $1500. Labor would have been $600 _IF_ i had the harness, and before they got into it they wanted to know if I wanted to proceed.
I didn't. ... It would have been $700-$1000 to me, but not more than that.

As an update to progress. I now have a PDC which is little better than useless. The front sensors around the number plate are active continuously, which in effect means that they sound at the approach of traffic, approaching trees etc and even more annoyingly, sound continuously when it rains !!!! The rear sensors work when reverse is engaged, but the signal is so weak it can hardly be heard.
Another full day at the dealers last week and they learned they couldn't do anything to help. We'll speak to BMW at call you tomorrow, they said. I'm still waiting.
