Reshaping the Trunk/deck lid

Has anyone done the cutting, welding and repainting of the e60 trunk lid so as to remove the vertical gap, visible on the rear sides? It seems the tail lights and hinges would not need to be altered. Only the sheet metal. Below is an example of the gap and a model with no gap on the sides.

why do you even wanna bother messing with the trunk... by messing with the trunk, there might be a chance of water leaking into the trunk and can ruin the whole electrical system...
just keep it the way it is...

I fully agree with the previous posts. The gap, visible from the sides, although minor in the grand scheme of things, is the only design issue I have with my 535. I love the 3 and 7 series trunk lines. I think the 5er would be stunning with the same trunk lines.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If I had a body shop I'd do the mod myself. But I don't so I will wait until I get rear-ended. Since that hopefully may never happen, I'd be very satisfied with the stunning automobile I have now.
Incidently, the new F10 may very well have removed that side vertical line (as I'd like to do with my 535). If it is gone then that may indicate something about BMW's design team having a possible aversion to that side cut.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If I had a body shop I'd do the mod myself. But I don't so I will wait until I get rear-ended. Since that hopefully may never happen, I'd be very satisfied with the stunning automobile I have now.
Incidently, the new F10 may very well have removed that side vertical line (as I'd like to do with my 535). If it is gone then that may indicate something about BMW's design team having a possible aversion to that side cut.

Honestly I think you should just buy an F10 and live with it on your 535i, but good luck if you wanted to try...
