bmw use two keys between cas and ecu. constant 2 bytes ID,
and rolling code (4 bytes). rolling codes are changed on
every run.
but you can simple repair it with inpa

My Ride: 2004 BMW 530i - no mods. Pretty basic really. I mean it has tires, windows, and a sweet look, what more could a man want? Honestly, I'd like to improve the sound system mildly, and possibly find a worthy engine mod that would increase my BHP by 100 without giving an arm and a leg for. I don't think it's out there, so I'll stay stock and love driving my 530i.

I see where you're going with this question. Every once and a while I do this trick to my Jeep.
Disconnect the battery by removing the positive battery cable. Ground the positive cable to the negative cable for 30 seconds to erase the electric charge in the capacitors. Reconnect the positive cable to the battery. Then some tricks with turning on and off the lights.
Sounds like the BMW's have a battery backup so the ECU never loses certain information. The nice thing about the Jeep is it forgets all driving habits. The Jeep remains in learning mode for the next 500 miles...

How do you reset the ecu? And what benefit would you get from doing this and what are the disadvantages if any? Thanks, I am just having problem with my central locking and maybe this may solve it.
