Removing the air intake Grate with the scoop? RPI can u chime in

So I have had the rpi scoop with KN filter installed for a couple months and have enjoyed it. I saw the other day someone posting on an install that they removed the mesh grate that is in front of the scoop/entry to the intake tubing. I went out and removed that completely and now have a completely open hole there with no grate.

I would have to think this grate causes turbulence especially since it was not designed to ahve air directed right at it, rather it was sucking air before and sucking it through a vacuum created by the intake charge-which would work with a grate since it will pull the air through each hole in the grate where vacuum was created.

Now ith forced air being "thrown " at it-I would think it would be turbulent. Anyway I feel much quicker with the grate gone. Any thoughts from RPI

That was Audi_Eatter that posted pics of yours truly removing the plastic intake mesh/grate. You did the right think by removing the plastic mesh/grate.

I tried it before but it didnt do anything at all. I would leave it on just to stop little things like leaves, etc from going in there.

My car never even had that. Just check your airfilter every now and then to check if leaves are in there.
There where a bunch of people with huge pieces of styrofoam in there

We cut it out cause you all left yours in.
It matters... I have more HP's then you now.. MWaaahhaaaaaa.

Just check you air filter now and again.
It's not a big deal.
