remapped 530d
#1
Anybody has already remapped his own 530d? I saw some very impressive figures from Skaffa posts (311 ps ? almost unbelieveble) I'm going to re-map mine in the next weeks and my choice is Digital Tuning from Switzerland; I'm not a beleiver of add-on digital boxes, my choice is for a full eprom modification.
Any suggestiin?
Thanks

My Ride: GONE BUT NOT FOGOTTEN : 530d SE Auto : Titanium Grey / Anthracite Leather, Poplar Trim, 18in 123 Style Alloys, Adaptive Bi-Xenons, Business Nav, Hi-Fi Speaker Package, Heated seats, Split-Fold Rear Seats
LR DISCO 3 HSE with everything (including 3 kids)
I am also condsidering getting this done - I am trying to work out the pro's and cons of all solutions. Can anyone well me the real differences between the add-on boxes and a full remap.
My understanding is that -
- add-on boxes only affect the timing and volume of the fuel
- ECU remap also does boost
Now my assumption is that the ECU remap will give you better results BUT is there a hidden cost in terms or wear-and-tear on the engine ? Also - ECU remap can be erased if the system SW is updated by BMW.
Currently - I am considering a Superchips ECU remap.

I will talk to Graham at Sanspped on Monday about the difference between boxes and remaps, with regard to wear and tear on engine, the Superchip remaps involve increases with fueling and boost but always within manufacturers engine tolerances. The remap data used on the latest Superchip remap allows BMW to update software without effecting the remap, if they do wipe/replace the ECU then Sanspeed will reload it for you, I not sure if they charge for that.
Sanspeed are currently in the final stages of developing a tuning box for the 530d, when it is ready I will be removing the Superchip remap and fitting the box, purely to guage the difference, although I am told the remap gives a greater performance increase than the box. The I will reload the Superchip. However, the boxes will be avaliable mail order via the website.
Cheers

Hartge do a monotronic chip for the 530d which does not vo
id BMW warranty. It produces 255bhp and 600nm. There figures are about the same as most other companies are saying.
The main good points is that it does not void warranty, wont get wiped off during a software update and it does not produce low figures such as the AC Schnitzer chip.
I phoned Birds Auto whi Hartge specialists and they do have one for the 525d. He will phone me tomorow with the exact figures and its quite likely that i will get mine from there.
I know it is abit expensive that other tuners but the at the end of the day it will save me alot of hassle because i wont have to go to back to the tuning company before a software update to resore the original map every time.

E60525D,
The Hartge website states
11 65 0300 H
Engine conversion for 530d
188 kW (255 hp) / 4000 rpm 550 Nm (lb-ft 369) / 2000 rpm
(usage not for vehicles with diesel particulate filter)
Which is the same performance gain as the Schnitzer ECU.
Not sure what you were referring to when you mentioned that the ACS unit had low figures.

Ive been told by a tuner that idrive updates wont delete the remap. Just engine updates will.
He said when the car goes for a service just tell them that you dont want any engine software upgrade because there is nothing wrong with it. Thus way the remap wont get wiped off.

It's not the fact that it's an ACS or Hartge unit that they only get 18% power and 10% torque increase, it's the method they use and it's this method that makes it BMW approved.
They fit a fuel line ECU that alters just the fuel pressures but no other remapping or turbo boosting which would give you more.
If you want a simple plug n play box that takes 5 ,inutes to fit or remove and is BMW approved then it these kinds of boxes that you want.
If you want maximum gain then it's a full remap that you want which is what some of the other tuners do.
Although the gains are great, with a car as expensive as this, I value the 5 year, 100000km no nonsense motorplan that the car comes with and dont want to give them any excuses to cancel it.
My car was in the shop for 3 weeks, needed a new DDE module which would have scrapped and remapping that was previously done. They also recoded the car with 15.x software and the gear box with an as yet unreleased 16.x software.
