My Ride: 2008 528i Alpine White
Thumbs up

I am retinting my car this weekend at a tint shop. When I bought my car recently the back windows were all limo tinted. It is too dark and I am retinting them to a 35% shade. Anyways I also want to do my rear lights and was wondering what is better? should I tint them so that if I get pulled over I can remove them. Or should I spray them permanately? I only want to smoke them like a greyish color not a full on black by the way. Who has done this and which way should I go? If I spray them, how many coats do u guys suggest? Thanks

I went with a Cherry type spray only on the red. I had them tinted at first but the color was not right for me (also, I tore a hole in one of them). Check these out...

Looking good! that's how i have mine

go for the spray, i had film on them before and eventually they will start to bubble around the curvature.

Wow I like the look of that cherry spray, do you remember what the spray was called (brand)?

Sorry, it was a custom job. I explained to victor (paint shop owner) what I was looking for and he blended it for me. He said it was a clear coat that he mixed.

I wud go with tints, protects the lights and its reversible. I did mine, but just the red part, bc the contrast looks sick

Yeah the tint shop guy said the same thing, his brother actually does it and he mixes a clear coat and sprays on. I love your lights Tony Mac. I was wondering weather to do the white part as well or not. I have the exact car an 08 528i except mine is white. thanks for the pictures Tony.

I also prefer tints because it is reversible. if done correctly, the tint shouldn't ever bubble at all.

a custom spray job can be expensive and a DIY job at home does not alway turn out well.

plus, if you ever get a fix-it ticket, a spay job means buying new taillights.

Agree with the shouldn't bubble part. I have another car that has rear tails tinted. It's been 6 years, and it still looks perfectly fine.

But as for fix-it... it is possible to just sand it off.
