Hey guys, am looking at getting the AUX. input installed. I noticed that the 06 models now have an AUX. in the rear center console. Is it easy for the dealer to install this, or can i even do it myself??? Oh, and is the rear AUX. independent of the front AUX? thanks

The rear AUX input in the 3/06 build E60's is a replacement for the glove box aux input. You do one or the other but not both. And FWIW, if I had the option I would rather it be in the glove box. The rear console is just odd but it'll hold until the real iPod adapter shows up.

They're just exactly the same. The cable is very long. It's roughly 4 to 5 feet.

So when did 07 production start? Mine has a rear AUX IN and it was made in the last week of March (Week 13) AFAIK. Delivered to dealer 10th April...

I have the aux port in the rear of the center console and it works real nice. I thought I would get the static from the so called feed back loop, but I don't. I use the belkin cig adapter with a cable I got from Radio Shack. But like others have said, I don't think it matters if you got the port in the glove or in the center console. If you do get static from the feed back loop, Radio Shack has a small device that you hook up to get rid of that so your covered either way. Sounds way better than the cassette adapter I was using before.

Your dealer can put it where ever you want - given that you need access to the ipod to control whats playing - the glove box is about the worst location possible and the rear centre console isn't much better.

You might as well get the dealer to install it as a software update is required. I think it should cost max ?150. I had a 12volt power adapter installed alongside it to power the ipod.

Mine is on the side of the centre console in the passenger footwell and my ipod sits in a purpose built non-damaging brodit 'proclip' mount and felt-lined cradle as in this picture. I can easily reach the click wheel while driving and the mount angle is adjustable.

If you are interested the mount is from www.dsldevelopments.co.uk.

Once you have it fitted do what my530i says here to improve the sound:

The directions from potatoaddict on the first page of the thread are the simplest to follow.

I assume you already have the aux inpout fitted to the back of your armrest.

I would think you could get to it just by popping of the fascia panel on the back - hopefully cable will just be loose inside. There are posts on this forum about popping off the fascia panel - should find with search.
