Hello all, I'm new to the E60 and new to this great forum, but have used similar forums for my E38, E34 and various BMW motorcycles. I've been poking around the site for about a month or so and found some really great info here, but I can't seem to nail down the real scoop on iPod upgrades that apply to me, so please forgive me for bringing this up again,(I've searched the archives for hours and can't find the answer).

I have a 9/03 build date US model 545i without Nav, but WITH Logic 7 and CD changer. I am looking for a "factory" looking and operating iPod interface and really like the looks of the BMW iPod system that replaces the CD changer. First of all, I can't seem to find out what to order and where to get the BMW iPod upgrade unit and Second, I am not sure if it will work in my car "as-is", or if it needs a software upgrade to work, or if there is no way it will work at all in my "old" E60.

If the BMW iPod system won't work, is there a system that simply "plugs-in" in a similar manner and can be controlled through the iDrive menus?

Sorry to bring this up again as it seems like it has been covered quite a bit, but I just can't seem to find the right answer. I have found some that say software is required, some that say it will work as-is and some that say it won't work, but want to know if anyone else with my setup has done it, or if anyone else knows with high probability what the correct answer is.

Thank you for the time and help!

The ipod integration kit will work in your car.

Find the kit on ebay or online. Its really easy to install, since you have the CD changer.

Once that is done, you have to go 2 the dealer and have it programmed to work, and you are done.

I have a 09/03 e60 also, so don't worry.

Good luck.

Thanks guys!

nigxdoof, can you tell me what the cost was at the dealer for programming and what exactly do they need to do for programming? My dealer is impossible to work with as they only do what they want to do and do not pay attention to details. They couldn't even tell me how I could upgrade my car's phone system to Bluetooth when all I had to do was buy the BTUM from BMW and click it into the phone slot.

This forum has been a huge help - Thank you!

Well, I got the programming done for free.. My friend is a Repair guy at a dealership, but it should costs $120-180.

As for the bluetooth, I had that retrofitted for $180 (programming), and i bought a bluetooth TCU for $300 a while back. I also upgraded the Mic too.

There's plenty of bulletins / Dealer notes that you can find on the forum and bring it to your dealer so they can do it exactly as it says. Look for a search for Service Bulletins / retrofits.

Good luck Chad. Hopefully you'll get the ipod integration installed for cheap.
