This thread has pix of my install, and excellent instructions from Don Juan regarding switched power supply--took me around an hour:

Thanks for quick answers on Tint questions...?? Enjoy keeping track of things on this forum.?

Also looking for advice on radar detectors...

Are there good experiences with installers in Dallas.

Should you buy your own (on eBay) or at the installer?

Thanks in advance...

Hi jstchecking:

I will give you information on what radar detector I purchased last year for my 2004 530i, Now I choose the Passport 8500 X50 for $299.00 with the $10.00 visor clip.

Now I do not know much about Valentine all though I hear they are $399.00 good, with directional arrows.

Now about purchasing a radar detector, I would stay away from all these so call bargains at, eBay, etc, because I have found they ain' t no bargains when it comes to the emerging technology of radar detectors because of our local law enforcement's agencies changing things, and all I found at eBay was escort Passport Radar detectors with great prices, but they were old radar detector units, with old technology or returned units!

Now I spend a little more, because I always buy the latest technology out there, especially with the newest thing on radar detectors: is the new "Pop" Band which Escort Passport radar units have on its: new 8500 X50 for just $299.00, and I buy my Passport radar detectors only from the Escort Passport manufacturer CLICK ON: http://www.escortradar.com/

Also I bought the extended warranty protection for 30.00, and Escort ESP plan has already paid for itself, because just six months after I purchased my new passport 8500, six months later, the new 8500 X50 with "POP" Band came out, but escort did the right thing and made it good and took the six month old 8500 back, and shipped me a new 8500 X50 with POP band, and it was FREE to me because I had purchased their ESP extended service plan for 30.00!

I do wish more vendors was as trusting and good as Escort is to ALL their customers, unlike some other online Replica wheel company vendors I have had bad experiences with... in essence Escort "Passport" Company is one fine company that has been around for more than twenty years now, and I am fixing to buy another 8500 with POP for my daughters car, along with a set of OEM Honda wheel's for her birthday.

Also I had my Passport 8500 hard wired on my e60 530i at Hi Fi Buys (Tweeter), for $50.00, and I have it clipped to my visor, because I don't like seeing those "forever" suction cup marks left on the windshield's of our fine e60 Bimmer's.

I wish you the best on you radar detector purchase and installation process on you BMW
e60!

Sincerely,

Presley348

PS,
Be sure the radar detectors are legal in the state where you live, by first checking with Escort Radar company before you purchase the radar detector, CLICK ON: http://www.escortradar.com/

Road-racers looking to avoid radar traps, beware ? your days are numbered. Researchers at the University of Florida have developed software that allows ordinary video cameras to determine a vehicle?s speed by recording its progress past fixed objects. The system ? developed using a $5 million grant from the U.S. Air Force ? is similar to those already in use in the U.K. and Australia. Because such systems don?t use lasers or other active technology, they can?t be foiled by radar detectors. No way to detect these.

Does anyone have Active Cruise control and a Valentine 1?

I am interested to know if the Active Cruise radar sets off a false alarm.
