Thanks for quick answers on Tint questions... Enjoy keeping track of things on this forum.

Also looking for advice on radar detectors...

Are there good experiences with installers in Dallas.

Should you buy your own (on eBay) or at the installer?

Thanks in advance...

If he follows that lead you gave him, robg, he should end up with a fabulous V1. I had a spirited 8 mile drive through some of the North Dallas traffic flows this afternoon wo a moment's worry - part of which was through Richardson on the dreaded and well policed Coit Road.

BTW, stream, if you are listening, I checked out your remote location while driving this afternoon, and I agree that with the V1 mounted to the right of the rear view mirror, your remote location is better. I may go back to the left of the mirror. I'll put that on my to-do list for tomorrow and probably get a round tuit by Wednesday.

I know. Cant decide if I am startingto revel in my Passport underdog role or if I am getting arrow envy. I might cut out some paper arrows and tape them to my passport and pretend I have a V-1.

As the previous link leads you, V1 is the way to go. I also read in the link where the remote display was conspicuously placed.

I have one in my 530i in the corner of the dash where the dash and windshield meet...PERFECT spot IMO.

No, no, no, Laser is the big new threat...don't waste your money on the V1, save money on the detector, get a Passport and put the savings into a Lidatek system. PM Beewang as he can get you a great group buy deal on the Lidatek now. You are dead meat with a detector alone.

I know Coit Road very well. Many years ago, I lived in north Dallas and worked on Arapaho Road, so I drove it every day. A week after I moved there, got pulled over and the cop told me I had 30 days to get a Texas drivers license and registration, and that "he'd be watching for me" to ensure I did!

On the V1 location, when I got my 545i I tried using just the main unit to the left of the rear view mirror, but didn't like the way it interfered with the sun visor, so I bit the bullet and ran the wire for the concealed display. BTW, the wire was almost the perfect length--I was sweating it wouldn't reach!

I'll probably pass on the remote even though you have sound reasoning for your use. I can still get reasonable use out of my sun visor with the unit to the left and back up for long trips will be the ole ball cap. You surprised me with your knowledge of Coit Road. I have never had an encounter with the Richardson police, but I have friends who are well aware of their efficiency. If you run the thoroughfares like Campbell, Coit, Beltline, et al, you will see them.

It is a pretty easy DIY if you follow directions in this group. But again, Claudio at Pro Tint could probably do it for you. He installed a set of air horns on an Acura for me years ago. I've always been impressed with his attention to detail. I would think those shops that install after market amplifiers and speakers could do it, too. Good luck.

This thread has pix of my install, and excellent instructions from Don Juan regarding switched power supply--took me around an hour:
