I tried both Passport and V1. Besides arrows, V1 had much better range.

My vote:
Vee One! !

Buy the Escort if you can't afford V1 <_< but then again...if money was an issue you should've bought the Audi.

That's the way i see it...

I used the V-1 for years and yes the arrows are a benefit, however the risks of the

V-1 IMHO far outweigh the benefits. First, the range on the Passport 8500

is better than the v-1. Second, the Passport has a better POP capability and

instant-on as well.Third and most importantly the V-1 has a very poor

laser detection ability. I was once driving while being lased by one of

Maryland's finest directly in front of me and the V-1 did not react. The

Passport 8500 is very good at detecting lasers even from a point very

lateral to your direction of travel. In addition, the Passport has add-on

front and rear laser detector- JAMMERS [legal in Md.] and they do

work. Invariably when the alarm goes off I see the officer giving

his laser a doubletake and I get time to slow to sub-light velocity.

This in combination w/ photoblock spray turns you into a stealth jet.

I have not been stopped in over 16 years. Get the Passport 8500.

I have been in pubic safety for some years now, (EMS side), and all I have ever used was Escort radar detectors, (My police buddies hate them! LOL), and now I use the new passport 8500 x 50 for $299.00 with the new POP band, (made to detect the "Instant on" hand held radar guns)

I have my 8500 z50 hard wired in my 04 530i and clipped to the visor, which works for me well, (I went to the visor mount because I hate the "forever" sucker marks left on the windshield)

I also have heard good things about the Valentine radar unit also, to each their own, I suppose between Valentine Vs Passport?

Did the suction cups leave permanent marks on your E60 windshield? I've never use suction cups for mounting before, but did on my 545i, and now you have me concerned!

I heard it really depends on where you live, i.e. in AZ or FL where is gets super hot, I have seen lots of permanent sucker marks left behind on windshields of fine auto's, for that very reason I spent $10.00 from escort for their visor mount. Now of course they are some who say, oh it don't work as good mounted on the visor because of deep tinted windshields interferes with the radar detection!! But you know I have never ran into that before, and I have had mine mounted on the driver side visor for eight months now with a single speeding ticket, YET!!! (LOL), but my Passport 8500 x50 works great on the visor of my new e60 530i.

Also unless your handy with wiring on e60 with iDrive, etc. May I suggest having your radar detector hardwired at Hi-Fi buys (Tweeter), for just $50.00. (I am good at auto wiring, but our Chris Bangle e60's are a whole different ball game! Beside if Hi Fi messes up, they will pay to have it wired right by BMW, ((I made sure of that before they started working on my new e60)). The Hi Fi tech did a great job for me hard wiring my Bimmer for the passport)

I guess that's is also like comparing a Factory (Passport 8500 X50!!) BMW OEM Wheel with a BMW Parallel M Replica wheel bought from "Joe" at "THE WHEEL EXCHANGE"! (Jk LOL)
