Just ordered R1 premium rotors and Hawk pads. Cant wait to receive and install em, so much so that i felt the need to post this. Was hoping for a military discount but oh well, i guess they are priced competitively enough. Anyone have any tips or tricks on installing these? I have installed plenty of rotors/pads in the past and i imagine these will be just as simple to install. Never hurts to see if anyone has had any unique experiences while installing these bad boys.

To date my mods on my 08 alpine white 535i include:

H&R sport springs
Koni shocks
RPI scoop
Shadowline trim/black kidney grills
blacked out side markers
black M5 166s
whelen electric air horn with PA (yes you read that right lol)
Had Procede v4 installed but returned it due to crazy amount of issues with it.

I didnt post a pic because i wanted to wait until i have my slotted and drilled rotors installed.

Thanks Eric. If you're looking for a tune, I always recommend Burger Tuning or Cobb Tuning. Those are the only two that I carry. If you get some forged wheels, I can extend a military discount.

I installed the same package - Premium D/S rotors and Hawk pads. Purchased them thru Michael and very pleased.

I would recommend you do the bedding process after installing - I'm sure you are aware as you state that you've performed many installs in the past. 60-10mph w/o completely stopping about 7-8 times. Nothing different from other rotors/pads other than the fact that the entire rotor may be black zinc coated. Howver, subsequent to the bedding process, the black coating will shread off.

You'll be pleased with the decrease in brake dust compared to the OEMs and stopping power is still great. Further, the premium rotors shouldn't rust.

From what I understand the stock BMW pads don't require anti-squeal. I would use it on the Hawk pads. I initially had some squealing issues when I first put them on. About 2 months afterwards I put anti-squeal on and they have been quiet ever since. I have mine for about 1.5 years and it's still quiet.

I installed the hawk pads this past weekend and i have to say, I'm not very pleased with the gripping power. I accomplished the bedding process and have about 221 miles on the new pads and rotors. I was expecting for the "bite" to become more noticeable by 200 miles but compared to the oem brakes, night and day difference. Im actually contemplating ordering a set of oem pads and swapping them.

The full bite takes about 500 miles to come in. I wasn't too happy at first but now my car just stops when I depress the brakes. I say be patient. This setup takes a while to reach its full potential.

If you want a firm pedal tho, that's a different story. If anyone knows of any distributors selling SS Brake lines, please share.
