The only way to avoid that is to get a 2-piece rotor but they are usually a lot more expensive. Gotta pay to play!

I just installed a new set of R1 premium drilled rotors and Hawk HPS pads last night, and I have a few initial impressions:

1. The rotors are not all black as expected, only the hub and outside edges. I just emailed R1 Concepts about this.
2. I am not impressed with the performance. I bedded them in pretty well I think, making several 60 - 10 and 70 - 10 passes. The initial grap isn't there, and when braking hard, I actually get the feeling they are slipping, as weird as that sounds.

Should they get better with time and use? Could the slipping actually the antilock brake mechanism kicking in?

Hi,

1. Did you purchase this set from me?
2. Yes they'll get better as you drive since they are still being broken in.

Mine don't have grip like OEM also but good enough for my driving style.

The braking will keep improving the more you drive the car. It took about 700 miles of city/highway driving
for the brakes to start working properly. I bought the Posi-quiet semi metallic pads and they work well but
they don't grab as hard as the stockers. I would say that my braking over all is about 90-95% from what it was
with the stock setup. I really like the look of the R1 rotors and the brake dust has been cut in half.
Thanks Michael for hookin me up.

The best thing about this setup is no brake dust!!!

hmm... interesting - i'm interested in this set because i've got about 4mm left of OEM pad, and i'm looking at the r1 rotor/hawk package. one of the last few posts mentioned that the kit has reduced bite/worse feel?

this is kind of scary to me because, driving on the autobahn, i have had to make numerous hard 150mph-60mph brakes when some idiot doesn't check his mirrors and tries to pass a truck right in front of me. the oem brakes make me feel comfortable when this happens, but if the r1 rotors can't rein in the beast as well or as quickly, that's cause for concern for me. is there any merit to this? are there other options i should be considering? thanks!

the claim of reduced bite/feel is incorrect. I have had Hawks for more than a year and the bite and braking power is MUCH improved over OEM, there was a post where someone claimed his friend saw a loss of performance while on a track day, but I corrected that by pointing out the the Hawk HPS pads are named that way because HPS stands for High Performance STREET. They will give you great street performance, but for serious track days Hawk makes pads specifically for that, in fact, when I raced on the SCCA they were the required pad for race days.

got it, thanks!

however, now i'm not seeing the package in the vendor's section - is there still a package deal for a 550i setup?

You might have to PM member AcutePerformance (Michael) - he can get you all sorted out, it was his package after all.
