Okay, here's a couple of pics. To recap, both of these are purchased about the same time, about 2 months old. The rear rotors already look like they have been on the car for years. I plan on getting wheels soon and it would look like crap if the front rotors are shiny and the rears look rusted out.

OMG THAT IS TERRIBLE! I have to buy rear rotors soon. I'll make sure they are not the e-line from R1 but the premium that have the black coating.

His results are definitely not typical. Both eline and premium are zinc coated to prevent rust. The premiums add another layer of black powdercoat.

I just had all new zimmermann zinc coated drilled disks fitted and got the garage to spray the hip part matte black to stop that problem. You could do that with yours. Can happen with most brands. Saw it on a Porsche this weekend.

From my years of DIY, rear wheel components seem to rust more than the front. This includes: brake rotors, axle hubs, wheel studs, wheel bolts, nuts, locks etc.
This is my observation from doing my own brake work, switching summer / winter wheel sets, removing wheel with leaky tire (for quick repair at tire shop). Perhaps front wheels have better airflow and runs hotter from brakes and thus dries better. |
hmmm i guess i will not buy R1
What other brands are available? |
I'm sure it's a fluke.

i've sold tons of sets and this is the first time. definitely a fluke. the best companies have their defects just look at the car you're driving. :)

Ya oem rusts in some cases I am sure but far and away I have seen very few OEM rotors in a salty winter climate I live in with any rust. Its usually the drilled slotted aftermarket ones I see rusting. I have had 3 sets in snowy/salty conditions and not one ounce of rust. This guy just put those on and they are rusting. say what you will but OEM has tighter control and this doesnt happen nearly as often.
This coming from a guy who apparently sells E60 products and didnt even know the stock tire/wheel size on an e60-ya Ill really take your advice on anything.. |
