Does anybody know if installing a set of M167's (FOUR 19x8.5, ET12) is doable? I'm thinking about mounting snows and making this my winter set up, so the skinnier tires in the rear might be safer. If four 18x8 fit, why not four 19x8.5?

The wheel offset is not the same as a 172M 8.5Jx19 which is ET18 so they would protrude by 6mm.So,if your skinnier tyres are narrower than the standard size on the 172M by at least that margin it should be O.K.This is purely theoretical !

Yes it would work 100%. I am running 245/35 R19 with 8,5x19 ET14 front and rear as my summer setup without any problems. And you are right about a narrower tire in snow.

Have you noticed any adverse changes in your speedometer reading?

No, why would I? That is the stock size. The width of tires doesn't affect the speedometer....
