[attachment=56034:36676775....562x421.jpg]Hello All:

I want to first say this web site is AWESOME. The amount of knowledge on this board is amazing. Although not new to the BMW Community, This is my first E60. I just purchased a 2004 545i w/sport package and have to say I love this car. The modding bug has bit me and I have a few questions.

I plan on lowering the car. Springs of choice are the Eibach Pro Kit. I have used Eibach on all of my previous cars and love them. Is Eibach a good spring choice for the E60? Does the sport package lower the car from the factory? If so, how much lower is it compared to non-sport? Can I install the springs only on my sport equipped E60 or will I require a shock upgrade? The car has 63K miles on it.

Thank You all in advance. Glad to be a member here.

Mike

Welcome to the forum Hyper! Nice ride!

A lot of members here actually prefer H&R Sport Springs and I'm hoping some of them will chime in eventually to give you their opinion.

Sports Packaged cars are a bit lower than non-sport cars from the factory. But when you put springs on them, they will end up with the same drop. There have also been numerous threads discussing whether or not to also change the shocks. Seems like the consensus has been that with lowered springs, the stock shocks will wear out sooner so it's really your choice if you want to do everything at once or just wait till you need to replace your shocks. Or opt for complete coilover systems like Bilstein PSS9 or KW Variant 2. Although H&R also makes coilovers for your E60, it doesn't have adjustability for dampening the shocks. Bilstein and KWs do.

What else are you planning for your car?

BTW, you should update your info to put where you're from so we can best help you.

Enjoy the forum.

I'm looking for H&R lowering springs myself and like you were saying that caught my attention. My car has sport package will H&R sports springs be actually the same height as what I'm riding on now? Its seems pretty low now already with only about 1 1/2 finger gap on the front tires 245/35 and a 1 finger gap on the rears 285/30 with 20" rims. Any info on springs would help I just want a 1 1/2 inch drop from what I got now and I'm good, will H&R race or Eibach pro kit be too low and harsh for daily driving?

EuroCarFan,

Thank you for your reply. And thank you for your comments in regards to my car. This site is incredible! So much information and the knowledge pool here dwarfs most other sites. As of right now, I am just researching. I like to get to know the car and research as much as I can about it. I am performing the Charcoal Filter Removal and installing a drop in K&N over the weekend. Still looking into an ECU Reflash, exhaust and a cosmetic update to the car in the next few months.

Glad to be a member and thanks again.

I got H&R sport springs and its perfect. The ride is great. I do also have sport package on my car. The only ride difference I felt is when going over dips it a little bumpier, but that's about it. With the ECU reflash and exhaust check my sig and link.

+1 welcome. sport package is lower than standard by 0.7", but as tony (ecf) said whichever aftermarket spring you get it will drop your car the same to the same level as if it were a non sport package e60. i myself have the eibach pro-kit, along with some others as well, and havent looked back. the ride is pretty much like stock, and its been said that these springs were made to work with the stock shocks and struts. same goes for H&R sports. many with either the pro-kit or the sports or who have had it only changed out the springs. and yes coilovers is always another option. for the ecu reflash, member r1racer (joe) posted a thread including dynos from his gain from just an ecu remap so you could check that out too. enjoy the forums.

r1racer, ECF and NeRwEEzy,

Thank you all for your replies! They are greatly appreciated.

Joe, def. going to look into the same ECU Re-Flash you went with. Very excited about the numbers you posted.

NeRwEEzy, quick question. In regards to the drop from Eibach, can I assume another .5 inch drop front and rear. If I understood correclty from yor post, the Eibacj springs will drop the car to the same level as non sport suspension. Eibach claims a 1.2" drop f/r. If the factory sport suspension is dropped 0.7" should I expect another 0.5" drop compared to what I have now?

from your sport package, yes with eibach springs you will have a 0.5" drop all around. with H&R sports you would have about 0.6" drop in the front and 0.5" drop in the rear. good luck with the mods
