A friend of mine has recently upgraded his 7 from the 19" Asanti wheels to some 22" MRR (or MRW- I forget) black wheels with the 8" or 10" chrome lip. I thought the Asanti's had a deep lip, but these new wheels are even deeper.

SO, he's been holding the 19" Asanti's for me, but I haven't gone to get them, after seeing how badly the chrome had flaked on the front wheels (Courtesy of the ice/snow/salt from NYC- that he didn't wash off as quickly as was apparently necessary). The back wheels look fine.

He has 275/40/19's on the front, and 285/30/19's on the back... I see you can go as wide as 295" on the back of a 5 series- but, my question is, is there a big difference in the factory offset between a 5 series and a 7 series, and, is there any chance those Asanti AF112's will fit the 5, even though they came of a 7?

I see the bolt pattern is the same. Anything else? has anyone done this before (Taken wheels off a 7 and put them on a 5)?

Hi

I'm pretty sure that the Asanti for the 7er won't fit on your 5er because of the offsets. Does he know the offsets on the Asantis?

Also the front tire 275/40/19 is pretty aggressive. The widest I've fit on my car is 255/30/20 or 255/35/19.

I'm sure others will chime in.

Yep, no way the fronts will fit - 275 means what 9.5 or 10 inch rim size? That is fine for the rears but that rim wouldn't fit under an M5 and they can run wider front rims than we can.

offset-wise, ideal would be ET20 all around.

Yeah, unfortunately, he doesn't know the offset on them.

Well, that's cool- I'll still get them. It's my plan to snag a used 7 this time next year, when my lease expires on my Edge...

Discount tire says they have a shop in California that can re-chrome the rims for me, at $350 per wheel... I guess that's not a bad investment ($700 total, plus a 2-weeek wait) on wheels that were $2,100 each when new...

Yeah if he's going to give you the wheels free I'd take 'em.

Well, I got the wheels, Asanti AF112's. The face looks nice, but the lip is shot on two of them. I need to have them re-chromed.

Tires: BF Goodrich, 275/30/19 (Rear), 245/35/19 (Front). Wheel locks (more to protect the tires, than the wheels- for right now)...

If you guys know of a company, especially one in DFW, that re-chromes wheels, let me know.

These were $5,500 wheels when new- so I guess a $1,000 investment to restore them is worthe the $$$, as long as they can be returned to "like new" condition.

I have a set of Ultra chrome wheels I put on my Expedition in 2003- and those jokers look like new. I paid $2,000 for wheels and tires. Hard to believe that wheels that cost over $1,000 each, would fail in this manner, for anything less than being run through a puddle of battery acid.

Anyhoo, here are the pics...

Discount tire is talking about a 6-week turn around to get the wheels fixed. If you know any company, especially on in D/FW that does excellent work, quickly- point me towards them.

You mat also want to check the wheel hub bore size as well. The 5 series is 72.56mm. The 7 series might be larger.

Hi guys-

No, what I was trying to say is- I got the wheels (see the pics), this past weekend, and they fit perfectly...

No problems (with the fitment) noted.

However, teh chrome is flaking near where the bead is, and one of the wheels loses air. I had it sealed today, but it's a temporary fix. If I can't find someone to rechrome (or dechrome) these wheels, I may just scrap them, and keep the tires, and buy a new set of wheels.

Tires are: 275/30/19 rear, and 245/35/19 front. I love the tread pattern-
