I'm with you buddy. I will pull the carpet mats out and put the all weather mats in. An additional point to the ones you made is if you keep your carpet mats under the rubber mats they have no chance to dry out or "breathe" and will get moldy.

I'm considering ordering a whole set from McNeil - I assume the new 550 takes "E60" mats? I suppose there's no difference to the floor on the different year E60 models? The trunk one-piece tray is great and it appears to fit very well.

Let me know please.

Thanks!

Right, mats are always the same even if the car is an E61. No differences between model years at all. I do not know the set from McNeil but the original BMW set is great as for the driver they have a piece of carpet in the middle so people doesn't wear out shoes' heels.

Taking out the carpet aids in cleanup when you remove the rubber mats to clean them. There is always some small pieces of litter that escape the rubber mat. If the original carpet was underneath, it would have to be cleaned as well as he final underlay.

I have always followed the practice of removing the original carpet until I sell the car.

For the E60 both carpeted and all-weather mats have the velcro type anchor.
Not on my E60 (or did you mean E61?)

Mats are the same for E60 and E61. The carpeted mats with velcro are the "Velour mats" that normally you do not have as OEM as too expensive. In Europe you can buy them as retrofit at abt. EUR 160 for complete set.

So you're saying that your all-weather mats are anchored with velcro?

My BMW all-weather mats are anchored with a hook-shaped stud that passes through the rubber (it installs in the same carpet holes as the velcro anchors.)

In Europe you can buy them only at the dealer may be the US BMW is selling them also online. You'd better check it on BMW US web page.

O.K. don't make fun of me because I'm in Calif. but I go to the snow all the time and this past year has been a record-breaking wet season for us, but am I the only one that likes using cocoa mats for the winter? The mats look great and mud and water don't go through them. Unlike the rubber mats they don't make shoes or bootsslip or slide when wet. I have black with grey dots, there are other patterns and colors available. I think the website is cocoamats.com

Finally went to the dealer and got them followed immediately by the wet season... Glad that I have them under my (& my friends') feet now..
