Dension has got their new interface the Getway 500. This unit is compatible with E60.

I have a May 05 production E61 without NAV. No 6 pack CD changer installed previously.

I had the ipod kit installed last week. It required updating the vehicle to progman 23 and to have the ipod interface activated from within the software update process.

It does work very well and is worth the $$ in my opinion.
That's very interesting. It seems that the instructions to the dealers from BMW are incorrect - or don't account for the features in Version 23.
How did you convince your dealer to do this, or how did the dealer know that this would work after the upgrade to V23?

Thanks!

The press release from BMW NA says that all vehicles produced after Mar 05 are compatible with a software update. There was no discussion at the dealership. They just ordered the parts and attempted (unsuccesfully) to install the interface using progman 22.2. They then went to 23 and it worked like a charm.

That is encouraging. Installed the ipod adaptor myself (very easy if you have the 6 CDC) but idrive would not recognize it. Just had Progman 23 installed - picked the car up at lunch and hope to reinstall the ipod adaptor tonight. Will report back as soon as I do.

Small hijack note - the lawyer screen goes away automatically in about 5 seconds with Progman 23! Think of all the energy I will save by not having to press "Accept" each time I start my car!

We have as old as August 04 builds with MOST Ipod interfaces working like a charm. This is very similar to the MP3 saga. BMW started by saying only from a certain build forward. No looking at the same bulletin it has ben updated and it states from SOP (start of production). I will wager the MOST Ipod will be the same way.

So far the easiest are w/ nav, with 6CDC, with MP3 a DIY is generally all u need (any build date)

Then MP3, no 6CDC, w/NAV both DIY and dealer installed work but most of not all have taken new software which I think had to activate teh 6CDC/Ipod recognition.

Last I have personally witnessed working iPod in no nav, no 6CDC, working MP3, late '05 build. Took CIP 23 to make it work.

There have been at least 3-4 OEM Ipod interfaces that did not work out of the box. Thought car was issue, but they pressed on and teh interface was bad.

Another car did not have its "Vehicle Order" info stored properly so the interface and CIP were not looking for the right car configuration. Once corrected it worked fine.

So are you saying that my production 05/04 with nav and 6CDC might be able to have Ipod integration? I have CIP 22.??? and will be scheduling a service visit to correct the issues that CIP 22 have caused. I would LOVE to also get IPOD.

cobradav -

I have a 545 - 2/04 build with Nav and CD changer. Currently have v17 of the software. Are you saying that upgrading to v23 will do the trick? Anything special that needs to be done?

Thx!

So the based on these data points, the consensus is that it will work on an 05 build 2006 after Progman 23 is installed.

I had V23 installed, but I'm guessing I would still have to go back to the dealer to "Enable" this functionality after the Ipod accessory is installed?
