I have just taken delivery on a new 2006 540i Sport. The dealer fitted an M5 rear deck spoiler and before I picked it up they said it had warped and they were fitting a new one. Thats nice. I've had the car for 4 days and the spoiler is coming unstuck.
Anyone had these problems?? Its stuck on with double-sided tape and that just seems very sub-standard on such an expensive car....
This is my first post. Great forum and good info so I hope to have many more.

Hi oz540,
Congrats on the new E60, but sorry for the bum deal on the rear spoiler.
Double-sided tape? Yes. I felt the same way when I found out my rear spoiler (the one offered in the E60 accessories catalog) was also attached with double-sided tape.
I have talked to a few folks and am now convinced that double-sided tape was better than drilling a few holes into my trunk.
The warped spoiler is unfortunate, but not uncommon (fiberglass/plastic will warp). Personally, I think the warped component is the major problem here. The double-sided tape, if it peels off, may be an adhesion problem (did they *wax* the car before adding the spoiler???), OR MORE LIKELY, the spoiler is badly warped and there's no double-sided tape in the market to compensate for it.
Good Luck.

Has anyone had a spoiler removed?
Mine has a raised spoiler (proper BMW part though), which I would actually prefer to lose - the car is wicked enough without it.
Any ideas how to get shot of it without causing damage to my lovely paint?

Some tips.
Apply a hair drier in the area and use a dental floss to cut the tape. After this apply some glue remover and wax it. With some paciente you will take it off without any paint damage.

I had this problem before. There is no problem with the tape! The problem is with the spoiler! You need to adjust it before fitting it (paint and tape). If you take a detail look you will see that the border didn't mach exactly the trunk so you need to rub with sand paper to get a perfect fit. I guess that BMW has some warpage trouble with it.
