I posted this in another thread, but didn't get a response so I thought I'd create a specific thread for it.

I am looking at the Breyton Race GTS's. Im on OEM 18s now, debating 19 or 20. I think the 20 will look nice, but I dont want any issues with ride or fitment like rubbing or bending rims. I also didn't want a big wheel with a small oem rotor look and new rotors are not in the budget.

A quick primer on offset and spacers? What do I need and how do they affect the tires?

What about staggering, how would that affect the car? I see that the 20's come in a 10" rear, 19s are 9.5". That is larger than stock, how would that affect the car and what would I have to do to accommodate that?

Another concept I do not fully under stand is the overall height of the tire. If I am on stock 18s with the stock aspect ratio, if I go to a larger and wider rim, will the aspect ratio be such that my overall tire and wheel height is the same as stock? Or is the overall wheel and tire height taller? If so, how does that affect the speedo?

I am torn between 19s or 20s. I think I would like the 20's, but I do not want a stiffer ride or ride quality to be compromised. Is that an issue?
thanks in advance.

Let me try to answer your questions.

1. i think our cars rotors are still big enough to rock 20's and not look stupid, if you feel you need 19's to make it look better then go with those. 19's with no lip still look great imo.
here is a quick example of a e60 with 19's....

2. offsets and spacers. The stock offset is et 20. I personally had a set of 20's with an offset of 18 on my car and it worked fine. Im going to run et 20 in the front and et 25 in the back. Im pretty sure if you run anything in the range of 15-25 you will be fine. I dont think tire wear is affected by the offset.

3.staggered sets work perfectly fine. Some people run 19x9.5 in the back and 19x8.5 in the front. If you go with 20s people here run anything from 20x9 in front and 20x10-20x10.5 in the back. It doesnt really affect the car when your rim is wider. It mostly depends on the offset.

4. when changing your rim/tire size if you run the correct tire setup you can get it pretty close to the stock size setup. If you were to run 19's im pretty damn sure you can get to stock size ratio without having to go with super small tires. With 20's the rears have to be 275/25/20 to stay as close as you can to stock setup and that tire is extremely small and you run the risk of bending or messing up your rims. Drlev has suggested that our bmw speedo is off by 2mph so even if you are slightly larger with a new tire setup it wouldnt matter much because you will basically be correcting the factory setting of the speedo being off a couple mph.

I, along with others here will be able to help you better once you get the size of rims decided on. Hope this helps.

When you say second set of 20's is that because the first set was damaged ?

I think Id like to go with 20's, but I am not keen on the idea that they may be damaged via daily driving.

New York roads are pretty bad. I still went with 20's. I never regret going 20's. I have bent both rear wheels and one in the front. (Not all at once)Cost me about $60 to repair each. Just drive careful around rough areas.

I would only get 19's for winter setup. As for summer setup, it'll always be 20's.
