Wow, you have to desolder the board? Ouch.
Merzbow,
I saw the guy who desoldered and resoldered the BMW E60 ECU chip. All I have to say is you cannot tell the different before and after.

I think a lot of the power chips are braking the encoding and just downloading new software. That is the route I would go and you can always go back to the original.

I talked to Dinan at the Bimmerfest and I believe they are close to releasing thier re-mapping. I am waiting for that. They always seem to do a good job and no warranty concerns - however more than the $400-$500 price tag.

BTW, socfan, I thought you where selling your ride?

I'll wait for the Dinan. Hopefully they can do it in such a matter that a dealer reprogram doesn't break the remapping (if this is even possibe).

I have also chipped the 545 and it makes a good difference. I am not sure about MPG yet because I have only had it a short time.

I got it at Powerchip in LA. PM me if you would like more information.

DINAN told me they were not going to release the chip for 545 as it was too new? I dont think they are very good with chips compared to some other companies. The warranty may be another thing
