DIY post

I posted on the DIY page, but no one bit and I know this will get some kind of response here!

Some of the CTS-V guys have a "free" mod where they drill a hole in the top of the mufflers, pull out the stuffing (sound deadener), then plug them back up. It can't match an expensive performance exhaust and shouldn't be expected to give any performance gain, but reportedly makes the car sound louder/deeper than stock with no resonance problems.

I?m willing to try the mod (worst case is I?d have to buy a Supersprint), but would like to know what?s inside a BMW muffler before spending the time to drop my exhaust (would want to drill from the top so it can't be seen). Is anyone who has replaced their OE muffler curious enough to dissect it to find out what?s inside? Or at least drill a 1/2 to 5/8? hole to see if the sound deadener material can be pulled out -- on the Cady it is a continious strand so once you get it started you just keep pulling.

this is basically how mufflers get louder over time, as the glass fibers start deteriorating.

you could also just make it louder the ghetto way - poke a hole in the muffler with a screwdriver LOL

Nice but also you must think guys of what is good for the engine, the different matterials used for a muffler also as important as the SOUND LOL

There are different brands shapes and looks out there also many different brands, not easy to choose, what I would do see that LIVE hear that and taste the pipes and then choose.

Also do not forget what is cool here to amaze some guyz with ENORMOUS sound can be a pain on a long jorney or cruising and being pulled of always, find the best you need.

my hint for getting more sound and not change of the exhausts is to get a decent remap

Already have a K&N and have removed the charcoal filter.

Over the next couple of weeks will be getting the car lowered, tinted, and adding new tires and wheels. Budget is a little tight to also do the exhaust right now, but I would really like to get a little more sound out of it.

There's no one that has removed the stock muffler that really wants to know what it looks like on the inside?
