I might do an ECU reflash if I was convinced that it could give me a significant boost in power.
On a 550?!?!!? Yes, it will give you a very nice boost. I agree with the lowering (I used to live in Manhattan too - 78th+York)

Do you really need any convincing? Someone tell Scott that you've had an RPi scoop and removed and returned the car to BMW with no problems, please. I'd say it myself, but he'll know I'd be lying

The ECU remap, however, is a waste of money IMHO, but you already knew that

The recent thread re the Dinan mods was very disappointing.

That's Dinan, what about RPI - yes they have one too and ActiveAutoWerks - they have one as well

P.S. The RPI scoop is like 2 or 3 tiny screws once removed they'd be hard pressed to find anything resembling "damage"

Just want to make sure that I don't have problems at lease end.

Says the man determined (as am I) to get the M5 for the next car?

Getting a M5 is hardly over the edge. It can be used as a daily driver without a problem. Not many cars can carry 4-5 people and their luggage and still have 500 bhp.
